Biography

Legendary Italian hat company Borsalino has been producing millinery of the highest quality and craftsmanship since 1857 and is the by-word for luxury headwear. The company expanded rapidly and a strong reputation grew, in particular for its felt fedora hat, prompting the release of the film ‘Borsalino’ in 1970, closely followed by the sequel ‘Borsalino & Co’ in 1973. In 2007 Borsalino launched their first women’s hat collection. The unmistakeable style and elegance of Borsalino hats has continued to expand internationally and is stocked in only the most exclusive shops worldwide.

Borsalino through the ages

 

Borsalino creates sophisticated and classic style gentlemen’s hats including panamas, bowlers, trilbys, caps and top hats. The women’s styles vary from discreet and understated sombre styles in subdued shades to vibrant and jaunty pillboxes embellished with vivid plumes. Most recently Borsalino has started producing smart motorbike helmets.

The Borsalino heritage is of great significance to the brand and is reflected in both the traditional hat making methods still employed today to the Borsalino Hat Museum which opened in Alessandria, Italy in 2006. The museum displays 2000 of Borsalino’s hats alongside the company’s promotional materials, including some of the acclaimed advertising posters designed in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century.  

Borsalino collaborated with Pitti Uomo complimenting the fashion house’s refined elegant designs with their handcrafted yet ultra-modern millinery.
