Already reaching heady heights with her captivating headwear, award winning Irish milliner Fiona Mangan longs to see hats become a part of everyday life, rather than reserved for special occasions.
Fiona Mangan practised as an Architect for 10 years, but with the economic downturn turned her attention to her lifelong passion – millinery. Prior to her career in architecture, Fiona had completed a dress design course specialising in millinery at the Grafton Academy, Ireland and had always made her own headwear for weddings and other events.
Since establishing her millinery label ‘Fiona Mangan Designs’ in 2010, she has been shortlisted for 5 prestigious fashion Awards and was awarded 'Irish Accessory Designer of the Year 2012' at the Kerry Fashion Awards.
Fiona Mangan’s refreshing appreciation of form, proportion, composition and structure draws from her career as an architect, which is combined with her love of 1930s and 1940s fashion. Using traditional millinery techniques along with both traditional and unconventional materials she creates edgy sculptural headwear with a distinctly fresh, ephemeral and contemporary quality.
‘I like to add a contemporary twist to vintage and classic styles.’ – FIONA MANGAN
"Fiona won one of the internationally acclaimed Hatty Awards 2012 - an award given to only 25 designers in the world for their contribution to the hat industry"
